Primates, reptiles and other species need
vitamin D to properly utilize calcium. In
the wild, their bodies readily synthesize
this vitamin when exposed to sunlight.
Enclosed animals must rely on transmitted
rather than direct solar rays. They run the
risk of vitamin D deficiency which can lead
to withdrawal of calcium from their bones,
and ultimately to rickets (osteomalacia) and
impaired cellular metabolism.
As skylights in zoos, SolacrylŽ SUVT allows
the passage of ultraviolet radiance that is
beneficial to the health and well-being of
animals in captivity. A recent independent
study showed SolacrylŽ SUVT to be far
superior to other skylight materials,
including polycarbonate, fiberglass, vinyl
and "Teflon".

Impact Resistance
SolacrylŽ SUVT is designed for heavy-duty
applications like continuous daily use in a
tanning salon and also resists nicks and
scratches that can reduce IV transmission.
Resists Yellowing and
Hazing
SolacrylŽ SUVT resists the yellowing,
clouding and haze that reduce the amount of
ultraviolet rays passing through the sheet
three times longer than standard UVT sheets.
Chemical Resistance
SolacrylŽ SUVT has the chemical resistance
of high-quality cell cast acrylic sheet, and
cleanup is a breeze. Nothing more than a
mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water is
needed to restore its sparkle.
Easily Formed
SolacrylŽ sheet is easy to work with. It can
be cut, drilled, and shaped by conventional
techniques. And, as a thermoplastic
material, it can be thermoformed to any
contour - from gentle curve to multi-wing. A
thermoformable protective masking, can be
left on the sheet throughout fabrication
until final installation. |
