High-temperature plastics:
New dimensions in technical applications
With the development of a whole range of high temperature plastics in the seventies and eighties, ENSINGER created a technological basis for a large number of new applications for plastics. It is these materials, in particular, which demonstrate most clearly the superior properties of plastics - sliding friction behaviour (particularly with dry running), savings in weight and chemical resistance - even at high continuous service temperatures.
This extremely successful use of the high temperature plastics is due in no small part to the fact that they can be produced by extrusion, injection moulding or on automatic presses - a development in which ENSINGER has played a major role.

 

 

The most important fields of application for high temperature plastics:

Machine elements subject to sliding friction (slide bearings, rollers, thrust washers, piston rings, seals) for mechanical engineering in general, the textile industry, office equipment and the automobile industry (particularly in engines, clutches, transmissions and drive trains)
Heat and shock resistant applications in the glass industry and in aviation and aerospace engineering
Heat resistant, high purity materials with no outgassing and good insulating or defined electrical conducting properties for the electrical and electronics industry
Sterilisation and hydrolysis resistant parts for medical technology
Radiation resistant components with no outgassing for vacuum technology and applications in the field of X-ray and nuclear power technology
Practically universal chemical and heat resistant components for the chemical industry

ENSINGER processes and supplies a comprehensive range of high temperature plastics unique in its variety and which is being continuously expanded and adapted in a constructive dialogue with our customers. Special reinforcement materials such as glass fibres, glass beads, carbon fibres and textile matrices are used to further increase thermal dimensional stability and rigidity. Additives such as PTFE, graphite and aramid fibres significantly improve the sliding friction properties; the admixing of metal fibres and/or carbon black enhance the electrical conductivity.
