Columbia Industrial Products offers a specifically designed composite material, CIP Marine™,Marine Bearing for the marine industry to help solve the needs for self lubricating bearings with high quality and quick delivery from a dependable source. As rudder bearings and stern tube bearings, CIP Marine™ is an environmentally friendly laminated composite material made by impregnating textiles with thermo setting resins and solid lubricants. This specialized, reliable, self lubricated composite material is helping eliminate undesired maintenance and dry docking time while optimizing the friction, wear and bearing functions.

CIP Marine Stern Tube BearingCIP Marine™ is a long lasting, wear resistant, self lubricated, greaseless bearing material that can aid in eliminating complex lubrication systems, while reducing the frequency of bearing replacement and dry docking fees. As self lubricated rudder bearings, stern tube bearings, thruster bearings, fairleads and slipway pads, CIP Marine™ offers a low coefficient of friction and low coefficient of thermal expansion with negligible moisture absorption. CIP Marine™ is corrosion resistant and light weight, while having high load and high impact capabilities. With excellent dimensional stability in wet and dry environments, easy to machine and can be press or freeze fitted with the ability to machine in place. CIP does not use abrasive filler materials (calcium carbonate-CaCO3) and is a 100% bearing material that is stable where misalignment is present.

CIP Marine is custom designed to your specifications for both below and above the water line, from pleasure boats to tankers. Columbia Industrial Products offers an extensive range of ID sizes up to 54" and provides the options for raw tubes / sheets or finished parts. As a general guide, CIP Marine™ composites can be used as replacements for existing, bronze/rubber, urethane or lignum-vitae based wear and bearing materials.

Custom Components & Finished Parts
CIP manufactures finished parts and custom components according to your drawings/specifications.  Parts such as composite bearings, thrust washers, wear rings, and wear pads can be manufactured.  In addition, custom components such as spherical bearings can be manufactured to help solve misalignment problems.  CIP offers parts requiring hex, square or irregular ID shapes produced from mandrels with the appropriate configurations.

 
 

CIP Material Grades
CIP offers a variety of composite material grades to choose from to best suit your specific bearing and wearing applications.  CIP materials are self lubricating laminated composites materials made by impregnating textiles with thermo setting resins and solid lubricants (choose from graphite, moly, or PTFE, Enhancement A™ or B™).  CIP Composites™ are 100% bearing materials (no metallic or fiberglass shell) and they do not contain any resin filler materials (no calcium carbonate CaCO3).  Columbia Industrial Products offers multiple textiles, lubrication and resin combinations in order to manufacture the highest quality material for your specific application.  The most common CIP Composite™ material grades include:

CIP 101 – Polyester textile, no lubrication, standard polyester resin

CIP 111 – Polyester textile, graphite lubrication, standard polyester resin

CIP 121 – Polyester textile, moly lubrication, standard polyester resin

CIP 131 - Polyester textile, PTFE lubrication, standard polyester resin

CIP 141 – Polyester textile, PTFE & graphite lubrication, standard polyester resin

CIP 151 – Polyester textile, moly & PTFE lubrication, standard polyester resin

CIP 151A – Polyester textile, moly & PTFE lubrication, standard polyester
                     resin plus Enhancement A™

CIP 251A – Polyester and PTFE combined textile, moly & PTFE lubrication,
                     standard polyester resin plus Enhancement A™

CIP 303 – Nomex® textile, no lubrication, vinyl ester resin (high temperature)

CIP HYDRO™ - Proprietary blend of textile, lubrication and resin mixture
                            specifically formulated for the Hydro Power industry.

*CIP Enhancement A™ - an additive to the resin mixture which enhances the physical properties of the material such as strength, durability and coefficient of friction. 

*CIP Enhancement B™ - an additive to the resin mixture which enhances the physical properties of the material such as strength, durability and coefficient of friction while reducing noise/squeaking.  Designed specifically for oscillating and pivoting motion.

CIP material grades depend specifically on your application; the type of environment (wet/dry, dirty/caustic), amount of load, speed of moving parts, and temperature are all taken into consideration when choosing which CIP material will solve your problem or concern.
